This elegant chess set includes Italfama's Italian Arabesque Staunton Metal Chess Pieces matched with our Walnut and Maple Molded Edge Chess Board and Classic Walnut Chess Box. This chess set created by the designers and craftsmen of Italfama has a traditional Staunton design that is ideal for both playing chess and using for décor in the home. The surface of each piece is decorated with an arabesque ornamental pattern giving them a luxurious appearance. Pieces are made from solid metal using the old-world, lost-wax casting process. They are then brass and nickel plated and lacquered to prevent tarnishing. This is a medium size chess set with a 3 king and a base diameter of 1. Pieces have red felt pads embossed with the Italfama logo. This is an inlaid chess board made from the finest walnut and maple veneer and sealed with a semi-gloss polyurethane finish to protect the wood. The precision of the inlay work is remarkable. The chess board has 1.5 squares with an extra-wide frame accentuated by a beautiful sycamore delimiter . The overall size of the board is 18.75 and is .5 thick. The chess box is wonderfully constructed and reminiscent of the old heirloom quality chess boxes from many years ago. The box is covered in walnut veneer and the interior is lined with a thick green baize just like we use for the pads on our chess pieces. The box has a divider in the center for storing the black and white pieces separately. We used high quality recessed hinges and nickel plated lock for securing the lid.
