Handcrafted in India by highly skilled turners and carvers, our British Staunton originates from an old British Chess Company design from years past. This set has a sleek profile with a traditional straight base, a small and stylish knight, and a notable tall rook and pawn. Our ebonized chess pieces are beautifully produced and look like real ebony at less than half the price. The king is 4 inches tall and has a base of 1.7. The pieces have thick green baize pads so they slide smoothly across the chess board and are heavily weighted for exceptional stability. We include 2 extra queens for pawn promotion. This beautiful chess board comes from Sunrise Chess and Games in Poland and is an excellent choice for matching with the ebonized and boxwood pieces. This is a handcrafted inlaid chess board made from premium quality mahogany and sycamore veneer. The craftsmanship of the inlay work is superb. The squares are 2.25 and the overall size of the board is 21.25 and .5 thick. The board is finished in a polyurethane matte finish to seal and protect the wood while enhancing the natural colors.
